musicmann - here's my take. If it offends or is not your interest - OK

I'm a musician for 25 years and a huge fan of music as an art form. (I know - big deal)

The musicians I admire, from Curtis Mayfield, Marley, to The Who, U2, The Beatles, ZEP were able to create something unique within the simple confines of Rock-n-Roll.

3-5 chords, simple rhyme, and convicion is not alot to work with.

Sammy Hagar epitomized everything I hate about music. It never challenges. His music followed trends, his lyrics unoriginal, his themes umimaginative.

He joins the brothers and the songs are no longer uniquely Van Halen or unique at all.

They are Pop-rock songs that any pop group could tackle. The only differential was the obligatory guitar solo and Edward has a style to that ends.

And when they tried to emulate the aggression and sexuality of their earlier work: I was left unconvinced of a real passion. seemed like emulation and my life-long disgust of sammy's was confirmed by his attempt to fit in there. "pundcake" blah

People here have often said Dave is not a real writer.

Well, when I hear "Dirty Movies", "Beautiful Girls", "Sinner's Swing", "Hang 'Em High" and on and on. I hear something very unique within the confines of a 50 year old art form. I hear it very suited to the music. It wasn't a bunch of pretty guys in makeup and leather, trying to look tough, singing about devils and other silly D&D bullshit. (shit very prevalent at the time)

And the music did come 1st.

Classic Van Halen is one of the top 10 pioneers of Rock-nRoll. Van Hagar is just a bandwagon band.

There is alot of bandwagon bands. Always has been.

And I hate every last 1 of them whose existance is known to me.
