WOLFGANG JOINS HIS DAD IN VAN HALEN


A lot of speculation and a lot of new updates are now appearing in relation to the Van Halen alive again in 2007 news started here a couple of weeks back.
Late last week celeb gossip site TMZ.com posted news of the band and who would play bass. Today G4TV ran a quote from band publicist Janie Liszewski confirming that news.
I called Liszewski for a confirmation of these comments. She happily obliged, stating that yes, Wolfgang Van Halen was the band's new bassist, suggesting that this wasn't news, as it was stated as such on Howard Stern by Eddie Van Halen in September.
She also confirmed that the Van Halen trio - Eddie, Alex and Wolfgang were 'busy in the studio, rehearsing and writing'. The rehearsing of course is for the aforementioned 2007 tour that the band's management are currently shopping to prospective promoters.
No confirmation as yet of the vocalist for next year's Van Halen tour - but as stated in my original report, David Lee Roth is the singer that is being included in the package offered to concert promoters. I'm told Roth has not yet visited the Van Halen's in the studio.

At this point I think Dave holds all the cards. Dave is the commodity. The "Family" needs Dave in order to capture the attention and backing of the promoters...it's obvious.

Maybe Dave is holding out until they are properly represented by a reputable firm other than the Porn connection of Janie's "High Class Media" company.

By the way, Ed's current girlfriend's has a diary on this website and she states when she gets "Rich" she'll get a maid....ha! I'm sure if she sticks around with Ed, they'll be able to have a Recycle Center on the 5150 compound to clean up all those empty bottles of Smoking Loon.

That was rather boring when Wolf came out. To think, I only hear that he knows drums, keyboard and guitar and he is supposed to replace Michael Anthony on bass?! I will pay $20, and no more, for front row tickets to '07 tour if Wolf is anywhere near the stage

Bottom line is that without Anthony, it's NOT a "true" CVH reunion.

I've seen MAX and NickD battling over this one earlier in the thread, and there are valid arguments on both sides.

Has MA been an annoying little suckass following Hagar around like a sheep? Sure he has...

Does MA waffle more than an IHOP on his opinion of DLR? Sure he does...

But the bottom line is that he is INTEGRAL to the CVH sound. Love him, hate him, or be completely indifferent....you can't ignore that fact.

And you won't get that sound with Wolfie!!! Period.

AS THE VAN HALEN WORLD TURNS:
A bunch of little tidbits from the Van Halen family of artists today. First up - a report from today's Boston Globe on the Van Halen 2007 tour:

"Right now Van Halen is contemplating going on tour in 2007.
And in an interesting twist it is neither Sammy Hagar nor David Lee Roth that's got fans buzzing about the potential outing but Eddie Van Halen's 15-year-old son Wolfgang.
It seems that Michael Anthony is out on bass and Wolfgang is in, according to VH's spokesperson. The band is also reportedly passing on Sammy, Dave, and presumably homeboy Gary Cherone, and considering using another family member, a nephew, in the lead vocal spot. (It's unclear if the nephew is drummer Alex Van Halen's son, but if he is, then it would truly be Van Halen, no?)
One way or another the original VH will undoubtedly be back in the news soon when the 2007 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees are announced. The seminal Cali metallers should be shoo-in.

What do I think of this? Baloney really. Sure, something like this might be contemplated, but I can absolutely confirm without any doubt whatsoever that a Van Halen 2007 tour continues to be pitched to promoters and that tour includes frontman David Lee Roth.
The asking price per show is not something that anyone is going to pay if it ain't Roth up front. There are already issues getting around that fact that it is not a true re-union of the original band now that Michael Anthony is confirmed as a non-starter. If EVH wants to do a club tour sometime, then the above idea might fly.
Where are things currently in regards to this 2007 tour with Roth? Still early days...
