Australia's Soundwave Revolution Officially CANCELLED!
Australia's SOUNDWAVE REVOLUTION Festival Officially Canceled - Aug. 8, 2011
Australia's Soundwave Revolution traveling festival has officially been canceled after the second-biggest headliner pulled out of the event.
Speaking to Australia's Nova 969 radio station, festival promoter AJ Maddah said, "The festival as we know it has been canceled. The situation is that we were scheduled to make a second announcement on the first of August, which had our festival co-headliner on that announcement. Their circumstances changed at the last minute and they had to pull out. And unfortunately we don't have enough time to replace them. And we didn't really want to go ahead with an incomplete lineup.
"We were supposed to make the public announcement this evening anyway. But what we wanted to do — because a lot of those bands are still coming and we are creating packages and what have you, for them to do in clubs and other venues — we wanted to be able to make the full announcement at 1 p.m. [today]. So that we could say the festival in its format is no longer happening [and] that these shows are taking its place. Unfortunately, one of those artists [drummer Stix Zadinia of STEEL PANTHER — Ed.] jumped the gun [and leaked the news of the festival cancelation via Twitter].
"The people that have already bought their tickets — I think it's nice enough that people that have already purchased their tickets by credit card, in which case those tickets are automatically refunded. And the small percentage that might have bought it from outlets, they'll be able to get a refund, I expect.
"Had we had been able to have our second headliner and make our second announcement, I think we wouldn't have had any issues with [the festival]. And it wasn't for the fact of not being able to attract the artists, I guess we were victims of certain artists' circumstances or what have you. I think the Australian festival market is still very strong.
"Obviously we love our fan base and we try to do what's best for them. And we could have taken the option of limping through with the lineup as we have [it] now. It still would have obviously been a much better financial outcome for us than to go through the road we have — but we just didn’t want to put an inferior product on the market.
"Revolution was a one-off, but yes, Soundwave 2012 will be back in February and the lineup is massive."

Disappointing, but I'm relieved that Van Halen wasn't the reason....Leave a comment:

That sucks for Pete!
I remember sitting in 2002 working out the alternate dates thing on the Roth/Hagar tour and booking a flight to Tampa because that would be a Roth headlining show only for him to go on first to a half empty arena.
That was bad enough but now Pete is stuck with expensive tickets to an ex penal colony with no gig at all.Leave a comment:

They do state that many bands will still be coming to Australia, and they're working on "other packages" for them to perform at other venues.
I wonder if VH is included in that group, or if Al and Ed just said "fuck it" and bowed out?Leave a comment:

Soundwave Revolution CANCELLED
From the Van Halen News Desk....
Australia’s Soundwave Revolution Officially Cancelled
Tuesday, 9 August 2011 Sad news for rock fans in Australia – the Soundwave Revolution festival that was to be headlined by Van Halen has been officially cancelled because the promoter was unable to secure a second headliner. The five cities to be played were Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth from Sept 24th to October 3rd. Hopefully Van Halen will make it to Australia as part of their upcoming tour.
From NOVAFM.com.au:
Soundwave Revolution 2011 has been cancelled
Bad news… Soundwave Revolution “as we know it” has been cancelled.
After hours of internet rumours, Soundwave Revolution promoter AJ Maddah has finally confirmed the news that nobody wanted to hear.
Maddah told Nova 969′s news team they were forced to pull the plug on the festival after the second-biggest headliner pulled out. Listen to the audio above.
“The festival as we know it has been cancelled,” Maddah said.
“We were scheduled to make a second announcement on the first of August – we had our festival co-headliner on that announcement… Their circumstances changed at the last minute and they had to pull out and unfortunately we don’t have enough time to replace them and we didn’t really want to go ahead with an incomplete line-up.
“We could have taken the option of linking through with the line-up as we have now – it would have obviously still been a much better financial outcome for us than to go through the road we have – but we just didn’t want to put an inferior product on the market,” he said.
Big acts lined up for Soundwave Revolution 2011 included Van Halen, Alice Cooper, Bad Religion, Panic! At The Disco, Hole, The Used, All Time Low, Sum 41, Dashboard Confessional, Relient K, The Pretty Reckless and more.
Maddah said plenty of bands would still be coming out to Oz.
“A lot of those bands are still coming and we are, you know, creating packages and what have you for them to (play) in clubs and other venues,” he said.
The story started to unfold this morning when Steel Panther drummer Stix Zadinia broke news of the cancellation via his Twitter account.
“Soundwave revolution is cancelled. I am bummed,” Zadinia wrote.
“Just got word from our management that the whole festival is cancelled. I hope I’m wrong but I was told it’s official. Anyone hear same? Maybe we’ll still come out and rock anyway! I’m hoping it can get worked out. We wanna rock u guys in Ozn (sic)”
Soundwave Revolution has just posted an official announcement via their Facebook page.
It is with great sadness that we announce the cancellation of the Revolution Festival. Many of the festival bands will still be coming to Australia in that time period and team up to bring you some very special shows.
These will include multi band/mini festival line-ups in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. We will be announcing these events in the next 7 days.
Tickets purchased online will be refunded automatically as soon as it can be processed. If you purchased from an outlet, refunds will be available next week from point of purchase.Leave a comment:

The promoter still hadn't booked the 2nd and 3rd headliners and this thing is just weeks away. For once it may well not be Van Halen's fault.Leave a comment:
