Legally marriage is a contract. Religious wise it's more than that. Just require the propper legal documents to get a marriage license and that's that. The founding fathers did make the point there should be a sepparation of church and state. The state should only be concerned where the union is legally binding so the money, visitation, and custody issues can be propperly adressed and leave the spiritual issues of it up to the church. If people have a problem calling it marriage fine we will call it a legal union.

You see, I don't get the "called out" part of the equation. Protesting in front of the stores, waving banners and yelling "Look at me!" while blocking access to the building and interrupting other people's choice of commerce is just plain wrong. You want to show your disapproval with a company? Don't buy their product, thus hitting 'em where it hurts: In the wallet. Anything else is restraint of trade, and in many cases, illegal.

Firstly(and I know you'll all have fun with this)

Secondly they would no doubt break up less if they were married as is the case with straight couples.

                That's how it's done here.

It's at least a good stepping stone until the superstitious and bigotted people calm down over time as they usually do over social issues they are clearly wrong about.

In the 70's you used to hear racial jokes quite a bit. I hear none now. In the 80's everyone knew a black person would never make it to the presidency. The kids today seem to be color blind. Nobody cares about interacial marriage. We've come a long way. What I discovered is there are certain people in our society who need racism to keep their political agenda going. Their biggest fear is no racism and people thinking for themselves. Why racism won't go away is because people like Al Sharpton make too much money off of it.

I mean where is the Ku Klux Klan theses days? They used to have huge rallies and marches in Washigton DC. Oh sure there are a few of them left but they look and sound like they live five levels below the worst trailer court.

I went to a rodeo and the best bronc rider was black. People loved the guy and cheered him on. Supposedly rednecks who go to rodeos are racist. I mean who keeps this shit alive is the media and antagonizers. The average person today is not racist.

I would say constitutionally gays should have the right to civil unions and have the right to call it marriage if they so choose. It's really not a religious issue and religion is suppossed to be sepparate from the goverment anyways. The government has the duty to protect freedom of religion for everyone. If people want to have a gay church then really constitutionally they have the right to do so. If other church's think sky daddy is going to be angry well that's an oppinion and they are entittled to it.

Both of those statements are lifted directly from homophobic propaganda campaigns. Hell, I'm surprised you didn't throw in the "gays are all well educated and rich" lie too.

2%?? Seriously, after Larry Craig, Ted Haggard, Mark Foley, that asshole who hired the rentboy to "carry his luggage", Ken Mehlman, Mary Cheney, et al it's more than obvious that even RIGHT WING REPUBLICANS have a higher rate of homosexuality than 2%, for fucks sake.

And I'm sure my sister and her partner will get a kick out of "most of their relationships break up", since they have been together about 27 years now.

Exactly. It's such a no-brainer, and yet bigots and zealots wrongly feel that THEY should be able to dictate what is legally recognized as a union, or that a union they don't agree with somehow hurts them. It's an absolutely retarded premise.

I've challenged people here repeatedly to explain to me why I should give a shit or oppose the idea that two dudes or two girls want to marry, without resorting the the usual religious/"it's unnatural and icky"/"fags & queers!" arguments for a couple of years now, and NO ONE CAN. Doubt anyone ever will, because there's no legitmate objection to it. It will never impact my life or anyone else's. Unlike a few weirdos here, I'm not offended by their very existence, so it's no big deal to me. Let' em.

That's hillarious. You know, the part about a "sucessful productive society". Let me tell you a fact, Elvis - gay marriage has been around since the dawn of time, it just hasn't been recognized by a church or government in SOME cases. It will be around until the end of time, regardless of whether or not it's recognized by a church or government.

Right now we're just arguing about the legalities in regards to getting it recognized by a government.

It's not going away dude. Deal.

He was a gas station owner who's business went south because the interstate took the cars off the highway his gas station was on. To draw people in he started serving chicken dinners. He then got into franchising. He's first franchise was in Salt Lake City at a place called the Harman Cafe. We used to eat there and Kentucky Fried Chicken was so much better. Mr. Harman said the Colonel was a stickler for quality control and was known to show up unannounced. In those days most chicken was pan fried but the colonel used special pressure cookers that can pressure cook in oil. If you screwed up, he would take your pressure cookers and since normal pressure cookers can't use oil you were out of the KFC business. Mr. Harman said the colonel took his pressure cookers and was loading them into his car and Mr. Harman was on his knees begging for a second chance.

One landmark in the area was a huge brick smokestack with the colonel's picture on it. The smokestack was torn down in the 1990's for insurance purposes. It was a popular navigation landmark for aircraft.
