The CEO of Fender obviousely sounded like this was someone's pet project he was sold on. It's obviouse his only intrest in the whole thing is making Fender money.
Isn't this always the bottom line and purpose of a CEO?
And God heard the voice of the lad. Then the angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and said to her, “What ails you, Hagar? Genesis 21:17

Yup. But the guy really seemed he didn't even want to be there. It's so corporate and uncool. There's nothing in all of this for the average Van Halen fan. it's all cashing in on the current guitar collecting fad.

It's not about inspiring anyone. I liked Ed better when he made his own guitars for a few hundred dollars a pop and could really play.

The fakeness of the whole thing turns me off.

The Fender employee who built the replica seems like a cool guy though.

As far as the tone goes, I can nail that tone on my 5150 II in the crunch channel. James Brown said him and Ed spents hours and hours trying to voice the 5150 Combo right and that circuit went right into the 5150 head.

You won't get the classic VH tone in the lead channel because it's too cascaded and driven. It's in the crunch channel.

I really don't think that new Fender amp is any different than a 5150 II and you don't get the Ressonance controls, only three pressence controls and the crunch channel has it's own EQ section.

I've decided I don't like Ed the person and could care less about him.

I do like his talent and he has some great ideas when he's on. Plus, the guy got the best guitar tone ever.

Dave Roth was right. Eddie is a lousey human being when he doesn't have a guitar in his hand.

Buy a used 5150 combo for $500. Add a widesweep bias pot to it. Put in some Electroharmonix tubes. Put it on the crunch setting. Have the pre gain around 4 and drive the post gain. Fiddle with the Ressonance/ pressence settings, and then dial in your EQ. Put a six band MXR EQ in the effects loop with the brown frown on and you will get damn close to the tone you are hearing at NAMM.

I bet EVHGEAR.com is going to sell that new amp for Soldano and Bogner prices.

Why most 5150 amps sound buzzy and shitty is the idle current in the bias is too low. Sure this makes the amps more reliable and allows Bubba to plug in his own tubes but it makes the amp thin and buzzy sounding. Metalheads like the sound and they seem to buy a lot of those amps.

If the idle current is raised the amp warms up marvelousely. If you want a better clean sound put in Mercury Magnetics transformers. Putting a choke in the power supply will give the amp even more of a Marshall vibe adding some overall balls to the tone.

You can have a great amp for under $1,000 with the mods and it will be reliable.

He might at some point, but the majority of his playing for all those years has been through a cordless system. Unless he uses asbestos picks, I'm going with the marlboro's. I should talk! *lights up another*

It's funny how he throws all his other companies under the bus. It is the same old Ed - any band member he isn't playing with anymore SUCKS and any sompany he isn't endorsing anymore SUCKS. What a douche....
I bet Vallerie is glad she isn't being begged to have sex by the toothless nicotine dump.

Ed alone is the most pathetic creature.

A lot of Eddie's sound is in his hands.

If Ed has a Yamaha bass stuck up his ass, you know he ran into Michael Anthony at NAAM.

Or maybe buy the new fender EVH and plug in?That sounds more like the old hotrodded marshall head than anything I've heard without mods. What do you think?

So true! I actually found you have to pick like Eddie as well to get his sound. Getting the final refinements is where the gear comes in but listen to Spanish Fly. Ed is nailing his sound on an accoustic. Spanish Fly also shows Ed has fucking strong hands and plays hard but with a subtle touch. What helps is looking at lots of video of Eddie playing. No way in hell is music notation or tab going to tell you how to sound like him.

For what Eddie is charging for gear these days, it might be cheaper to buy the Marshall. I loved how the Fender CEO pointed out the amp. That is where he knows the gravy is. They will sell a ton of those.

It sounds like a good pre-amp circuit going to me.

Throughout the years I have heard of times when Ed was a dick and times when he was a cool and generous guy. Most of his problems stem from alcohol abuse. With that being said, I got into EVH in 1978 because of his guitar playing. I don't know Ed personally so I really don't care what he does nor do I really know for sure what is BS and what isn't concerning things I hear and read about him on the internet. I think that most of the bizzare behavior from EVH is due to too much alcohol over a very long time.

I don't think Eddie is the one setting the prices. If the prices are high and the gear is selling then somebody at Fender is doing something right. It boils down to supply and demand.
