Could this possibly be true???? Could it be true that Ed and Al really wanted Dave to be happy with the deal and the label? And they expect Dave to be out front handling most of the promotion? Dear god, it's almost too good to be true! It almost sounds as if Dave is back in his role as leader of the band and that all of the rumors of divisions between Dave and the Van Halens were just so much bullshit.

Despite my cynicism, it'd be pretty sweet if after all these years of false starts, misfires and wasted time some decent music was put out. Hearing a new full length album of solid rock tunes created by Dave and Ed would put a smile on my face.

I mean, there is a wealth of black humor to be mined from the fuckup entity currently known as 'Van Halen' but I really wanna see these guys knock something out of the park, like they used to be able to do with ease. This band LONG ago (pre 1985) represented something so powerful and positive to me...as a fan, I don't wanna see them devolve into a dysfunctional gang of bumblefucks and go out with a whimper.

"The signing was a group effort involving UMG chairman and CEO Lucian Grainge, UMG International COO Max Hole, Interscope Geffen A&M vice chairman Steve Berman and Interscope's Jimmy Iovine, who, says a source, "heard the band was available and wanted to work with them. It was decided at the 11th hour.” What came next was a series of meetings that presented the band with a global plan that included extensive marketing, merchandising, touring and, of course, recordings."

It's good to hear vh was aggressively pursued like it was 1979.

Does this mean from hereon, Interscope will manage all vh PR to lighten Janie's workload?

Jeff of vhnd said Ed and Al wanted to sign with Columbia but they went with Interscope to make Dave happy.

Until Dave is seen and heard in present time, publicly speaking of current/future Van Halen band business... I ain't even open to sipping this kool-aid...

Too good to be true... rings loud and clear. Not to mention this is galaxies beyond a 180 degree turn of spEd and Al's strategic Van Halen direction.

My cautious optimism ain't goin no where yet... I'll sit in the back with a smirk and grin until there's something really to get worked up about...

Well Dave worked for CBS (Columbia Broadcasting Company) and we saw how that worked out.
Maybe that had something to do with him not wanting to sign with Columbia.
However, isn't Interscope a rap and R and B label?

Still, hearing the album is done is good news.

It started out as a rap type label but now has U2, Lady Gaga and among other hip artists that I've not heard of.

Columbia Records hasn't been part of CBS Radio/Broadcasting/Viacom for years. Sony bought the label from CBS in '88.

Interscope is part of the Universal Music Group so a lot of the artists on that label (U2 and the Police for examples) ended up that way by way of mega-corporate mergers when Universal swallowed up Island Records, A&M, etc.

Just read in the UK daily newspaper The Guardian today that Universal have just acquired EMI for 1.2bn UKP, beating nearest bidders Warners by a cool half a billion. that's clout.

I think they acquire The Beatles recorded catalog in doing this (and the Stones, and Pink Floyd, amongst others - Sony acquired the publishing arm of EMI for 2.2bn) - story here fellas:

The deal trumped an offer by rival company Warner Music and is the first part of the breakup of the British music major. By Mark Sweney

With Interscope being part of the Universal Group, VH are apprently going with the biggest - whether it's good or bad, we will see in the fullness of time.

Suprised that Universal is French-owned, though ... when did the French get to be such big players in media/entertainment?

when Vivendi bought Seagrams, which owned Universal.
