I HATE when I mention VH and someone says "oh yeah...Jump!". Fuck! That was 1 pop song and virtually reflects ZERO of what VH was at all. If you think 'Jump' is a good representation of classic VH...I just don't know. Pisses me off.

Don't get me wrong, Jump is a cool tune and always kinda puts me in a better mood. And I know it really opened VH up to a lot more people. But dang if sometimes I just wish they never would have wrote that tune.
Yeah, kinda reminds me of this conversation I had with some kid back in the 1990's who thought Led Zeppelin sounded "a little like Jane's Addiction".

What? Not even remotely the same, I said. Do you even KNOW who Led Zeppelin was? Can you even name 5 of their fucking songs??

Oh for sure, like totally and junk..... uhhh...... Stairway to Heaven...... uhhh.......... that one about the levee or whatever...... emmmmmm....

    Yeah, that's what I thought.

Well, Jump does represent Classic Van Halen. However, it represents only one facet of Van Halen. Just as Hot Dog represents one facet of Led Zeppelin.

Van Halen Signed To Interscope Records, Call Off Grammy Nominations Performance
        11/16/2011 12:45 PM ET

(RTTNews) - Van Halen have signed to Interscope records and have pulled out of their scheduled performance at the Grammy nominations concert.

The group, which previously reunited with original frontman David Lee Roth for tours in 2007 and 2008, will be releasing their first album with Roth since 1984's 1984. In addition, it will be their first album as a group since 1998's Van Halen III.

The group had been rumored to be nearing a deal with Columbia records, but it fell through after sources noted that Roth did not want the Los Angeles band to sign a deal with an East Coast-based record label. Later on, Interscope's chairman contacted the band and struck a deal.

The band also announced that they would not be playing the Grammy nominations concert as previously hinted in a November 3 tweet from the Grammy Foundation.

If true, it would probably be because some incontinent douche at the Grammys couldn't keep it in and had to go and tweet it.

I think VH's record with new media shows that they don't want their surprise announced four weeks in advance, and they don't want someone spilling blow-by-blow details of what their plans are.

I just knew this would happen, as soon as that Grammy tweet seemed to confirm what was only a rumour about an unidentified 'iconic band' till that point.

Maybe the Grammy appearance was tied to the Columbia deal (CBS and Columbia same parent company?) Now the deal is off, vh doesn't have to go on the Grammy or they are no longer invited. Between Dave and Interscope, I think they can get the news out fine without the Grammy.

Right. What announcement??? 27 years since the last Van Halen record, 3 years since the last tour ended. Supposedly the new record is completely finished, and supposedly they signed with a label and...nothing. Not one comment, nada. I'll be the first to admit I devote waaayyy too much time to caring about this. But damn, give us something! Ugh, I need a drink.

                      ============================

A popular Hawaiian recording artist turned a top-security dinner of Pacific Rim leaders hosted by President Barack Obama into a subtle protest with a song in support of the "Occupy" movement.

Makana, who goes by one name, was enlisted to play a luau, or Hawaiian feast, Saturday night for leaders assembled in Obama's birthplace, Honolulu, for an annual summit that is formulating plans for a Pacific free-trade pact.

But in the midst of the dinner on the resort strip Waikiki Beach, he pulled open his jacket to reveal a T-shirt that read "Occupy with Aloha," using the Hawaiian word whose various meanings include love and peace. He then sang a marathon version of his new song "We Are the Many."

"I was pretty nervous. In fact, I was terrified. I kept thinking, 'What are the consequences going to be?'" Makana, 33, told AFP.

"It was incredibly comical. I was terrified but also enjoying it," he said.

Makana, who was born Matthew Swalinkavich, said the song prompted awkward stares from a few of those present but the Obamas appeared too absorbed with their guests to notice what was happening.

The performance occurred at a dinner for summit participants from 21 economies around the Asia-Pacific, including Chinese President Hu Jintao and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, amid a security lockdown in Waikiki.

As Makana sang, about 400 protesters including anti-globalization and native Hawaiian rights activists staged a protest march toward the dinner site but turned back after encountering the smothering security.

Makana released the song on the Internet the day before and decided to play it at the urging of fans, he said.

Inspired by the anti-capitalist movement that began with the "Occupy Wall Street" demonstrations in New York, it denounces Washington politicians, corporate greed and what he sees as an unfair American economic system.

The song features the refrain, "We'll occupy the streets, we'll occupy the courts, we'll occupy the offices of you, till you do the bidding of the many, not the few."

He sang it "over and over" for 40 minutes, varying his tempo and delivery to avoid triggering an overt reaction.

"Whenever I felt the heat might come down, I would ease off. It was a very careful procedure," he said.

"I have heard there are troubles of more than one kind. - Some come from ahead and some come from behind. - But I've bought a big bat. I'm all ready you see. - Now my troubles are going to have troubles with me!" ~ Dr. Seuss

Since the album title "Fragile" has already been used by Yes, perhaps the new VH record could be called "Hyper Fragile". The cover could be a scotch taped Humpty Dumpty with a shit eatin' grin.

(RTTNews) - Van Halen have signed to Interscope records and have pulled out of their scheduled performance at the Grammy nominations concert.

Come the fuck on already. I guess I can atleast go back to not wanting Thansgiving to come and go so fast now that Nov. 30th is just another day with a show I won't watch.

Well, put it this way: We have always suspected this would turn into some kind of fucked up bullshit. Even if the above news item is a fake, it is something that would not surprise any of us.

Since other bands' PR process is a well-oiled machine, and VH's PR process is like a hoopty with 2 flat tires, and a leaky head-gasket.

I forsee a world wide take over by Van Halen.....and I'd like to be on the front line for this one. This news made my day, and an announcement in front of our live naked steaming eyes on public television is gonna take me back to where it all began....which isn't that bad of a place to be especially when David Lee Roth was and always will be still there. Might as well JUMP!

News outlets are getting this all wrong.

The Grammy people never hinted at a VH performance at the Grammy nominations concert but an appearance to announce their new album, etc and to say they will be performing at the Awards show in FEBRUARY.

Now it's all possible they have decided not to even make that 'appearance' but I don't recall them saying anything.
