I thought a perfect storm was made up of three parts? Since VH is a four piece, I wonder who is getting shafted this time? I mean, other than the audience.

Van Halen Signs With Interscope Records: New Album Release Date Set

          From VHND:

Van Halen Signs With Interscope Records

          THURSDAY, 10 NOVEMBER 2011

VHND has been hearing some solid info from our trusted sources, and it’s all wonderful news!
Van Halen has recently signed with Interscope Records (not Columbia Records as rumors stated). The album is 100% done and in the can, and fans will have it in their hands early next year. The release date is set in stone and is top secret, but will be announced very soon.

In fact, the Grammys are hinting strongly that Van Halen will make their announcement at the Grammy Nominations Concert held in Los Angeles on November 30th. Fans will be able to watch the announcement live on CBS.

Jimmy Iovine...good company to be in. an actual music guy running a label, not some friggin' bean counter.

Well, they aren't listed on the Interscope Artists page yet, but I guess they could be holding off until the Grammy Nominations deal.

How Ironic that Van Halen would end up on the same label as U2 and the Police, given Dave's satirical comments about Bono & Sting over the years.

Wonder if he played any part in producing the album. I know Shanks is supposedly the producer of record, but with a track record like Iovine's, it could be a good thing to bring him in on it.

It does sound like it took a surgical procedure. I remember my annual Interscope......if it weren't for the nurses and Ice Cream......

Live on CBS huh? Celebration (of no more) B S Network?

I can hear it now. We wanted the album out sooner but lawyers got involved and...... We will hear that if we are lucky.

                        Sounds like real news.

Somebody has already added the band's name to the 'Interscope Artists' section of the Wikipedia page, which I was just checking out in order to find out more about the record company as I have never purchased a record that's on that label.

But, if Jimmy Iovine - a real music guy - still has an influence on the label, even if only at an exec. level, that can only be a good thing. He produced one of my favourite albums, 'Damn the Torpedoes' by TP and the Heartbreakers. Just thinking of it makes me want to go and listen to it.

I think VH never re-signed with Warners back in the early 2000's because all the people that had been connected to the label when they signed in '77 were swept out in the aftermath of some corporate merger process (when Time Inc - publisher of the magazine of the same name, and others - bought out the Warners group, to make it Time Warner) that saw 'outsiders' taking effective control of the label in the mid-90s and changing the way it operated.

Templeman, who was a Vice-President, was a music guy - he was gone; but he was following his mentor, Mo Ostin, the guy who signed VH that night in '77 with Templeman. An interesting guy, who had been Frank Sinatra's business manager back in the late 50s'-early 60s (and founder of the Reprise label - Frank Sinatra's own label - which ... DLR's YFLM came out on). When he and Lenny Waronker were ousted in 95-96, everything at Warners changed.

Warners had been a kind of 'family' label that looked after acts that didn't really sell, but who they thought were worthwhile (Ry Cooder, Captain Beefheart, Van Dyke Parks, etc). Even Ted Templeman's sister was worked at the label - she signed Jane's Addiction. Roberta Peterson was her married name (married to Ted's old drummer in Harpers Bizarre, John Peterson), and I believe she, like Ted, was a Vice President of the company by the 80s as well.

As you can see, fellas, I have too much spare time on my hands ... I was having my morning coffee and there goes half an hour.

P.S. after some googling, Ted's sister left Warners in 95, too. She became director of A&R at Geffen, which is now part of the same stable as ... Interscope. Not that this establishes a connection, y'understand. Just trying to get my brain into gear for the day.

And just as the same, if melodi-crock posted the same information, it would signal that the band had broken up once and for all.
