Although I am beyond incredibly and insanely excited for the new album, Van Halen still have to do 2 things for me until I will be well and truly satisfied :P.
A World Tour (to Australia as well) and to start releasing all the classic shows they said they recorded but were never released. As a 16 year old living in a time where Lady Gaga, generic rock and autotuned pop are played on the radio, I'd very much at least get to experience just a minute portion of what I missed out on due to being born a decade after, the mighty Van Halen of the 70s and 80s! A tour and new album are already more than enough though, but this would just top it off on a whole different level!!! :D
1981 and 1984 to be exact! The technology to restore and touch up the footage is available now and I'm sure the fans would go nuts for unreleased footage! Just think Van Halen were (and still are) one of the best live bands of all time and yet there is still no dvd released with Roth at the helm, only Hagar dvds. Even a massive boxset consisting just of the 70s stuff would be awesome!!!!!
Can you just imagine the supreme epicness of watching a pristine quality, surround sound blu ray of one of the Roth eras? There are countless occassions that have been recorded where one of the band members have confirmed a show being filmed for home release. For example the 1980 tour was filmed and was said to rival The Who's "Kids are alright" but was unfortunately never released.
So Eddie are you ever going to reach into that vault of yours and release some classic gems? Seems it's already been opened to remake songs, it's only a matter of time before the videos get handled again :D
Anyway your thoughts?Comment

I've been thinking about the same thing. We still have 10 mystery tracks from 13 to speculate on and I'm thinking at least 3 or 4 will be reworked songs from those 2000 sessions. Other than the Dave comment, Mike also said, "They were pretty damn good actually." And someone at the Links who heard them raved on about how amazing the music was. I think there were 5 or 6 completed tracks.Comment

The awesome Classic Rock mag has already listened to the album. Here's a little review from their twitter:
VH: we've had 2 listens and in those 2 plays it's gone from a little disappointing to actually pretty good. It may be a classic by 5pm.There's a great run of 3 tracks at the end: Stay Frosty, an acoustic blues which just EXPLODES, Big River (prime VH) and Beats Workin' at 5 mins the longest track. It has riffs, it has dynamics, it has the bassline from Daytripper. Full review next issue...Comment

Due to the way VH has kept the record under wraps, who knows if any of these early 'reviews' are even legit.=V V=

Good call - it is copped from 'I Feel Fine.' The irony being that I'm wearing a Beatles t-shirt as I typed that. Although I should point out that most reviewers today wouldn't know 'I Feel Fine' from 'Daytripper' anyway. Musical knowledge of legendary bands is no longer required to write for rock magazines and websites...My karma just ran over your dogma.Comment

Man, the line "...it's gone from a little disappointing to actually pretty good. It may be a classic by 5pm." get's me excited. Reminds me of when I got Beat The Devil's Tattoo by Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. I was a little disappointed that they had gone back to their earlier CD's sounds. Then, by the 5th run through, I loved it.Comment

I called JB-HIFI (national Aussie CD/DVD/electronics chain) and the salesperson confirmed the release date of ADKOT as February 3. But he also said to check with them on February 2 as more often than not they get deliveries one day early.
I'm intending to buy the album from this old music store that's been around since the 70s rather than a big corporate chain, so hopefully they'll also get it early, or I'm gonna be tempted to sell-out...Comment
