I'm afraid that the new album will be too perfect, too obsessed over and too clean. In the modern age of Pro Tools and Mac Books we get too many perfect albums that feel like NOTHING AT ALL. Like a Big Mac (at best) that always tastes the same versus a great bottle of single barrel bourbon which tastes like no other. Here's to hoping the new Van Halen album is imperfect, unplanned and maybe even a little sloppy.

What would you like to hear the new Van Halen album sound like?
I'd like a little of column A and a little of column B. DLR Band is a great example of this. AWESOME album, but really needed more from a production point of view. Contrast that with the super-clean approach. So, if they go in with both ideas in mind, a ying and yang approach if you will. Then that would be the best, like the first album.

I hope it has a thin sound like the old albums. I don't want a heavy loud production. The way Ed's guitar sounded on the Balance album and the 2 1996 Dave tunes just isn't my thing. It is a great sound, but not for Ed. Only a few overdubs would be nice. I'm very interested too hear how Daves voice will sound on it. If it is a big production and sounds good that's fine. I wonder how the bass will sound !

I would prefer it sounded more like the first 4 albums and not so much like 1984. Definitely NOTHING like tracks 1, 2, and 7 from that album (the keyboard shit)

I only have one hope - That it BETTER NOT sound like merely the latest Van Hagar album.....

I started to say ... I hope they pulled some of those awesome unreleased tracks from their demo ... but after considering it a moment I don't think they could do the originals any justice

So do we even know the title of the album yet?

It couldn't actually BE "2.7.12", could it?

Well.... if you really think about it, it just fucking might be. Not sure what the "2" would mean. "7" is obvious, as this is the 7th Van Halen album. However, if you wanted to count all the records that were released under the Van Halen name, you have 6 Van Halen + 4 Van Hagar + VDIII = 11, which would make this "12".

Or does this only make sense after a shit load of Snow Cap Ale?

I've had some similar concerns, but not so much anymore. It's hard to imagine a VH album with a production value like the Strokes, ya know, purposely low budget sounding to create false edgyness. VH makes big music for big places and the little extra polish that gets sprayed over their production shouldn't do any harm. I'm also not the least bit concerned about backing vocals. I think we stand a chance to be pleasantly surprised in that department. I wouldn't mind hearing some songs where it's Dave doubling his voice for some of the choruses. I love the 3 part Dave harmony chorus of She's My Machine. There's also a handful of classics that were just Dave. Panama (no hint of Mike there), Everybody Wants Some, Dirty Movies. We're in a win win situation here. Even if they pump out a shitty track or two, we'll still figure out a way to like something about it.
