It's hard to believe they have a copy as the record company and the band have kept things so tight. But they have a solid reputation (as far as I'm aware) and their description sounds too genuine to dismiss. If they weren't impressed on the first listen but think it could be a classic by a few listens later - that is a great sign.

Exclusive VAN HALEN - A DIFFERENT KIND OF TRUTH Album Review!! - First one on the net!
Hey guys!,
We have some breaking news! The new Van Halen album ‘A Different Kind of Truth’ is being listened to, secretly by a few people around the world (close friends of VH, family member of VH and more). Interscope records is doing an amazing job makeing sure the full album does not leak. Oh yeah.. Did we tell you that we happen to know someone that heard the full album! Well we do and we talked to him about it and this is what we got out of him! (We are not trying to scam anyone with this review, we are simply trying to get the word out about the new VH album and we hope all this review does is pump you up for when you buy it! Hope you like the review!)
First off, he said that the whole album “is better in some ways and worse in some ways then I expected” then went on to say that “the best songs in my opinion on the entire album were Beats Workin, China Town, As Is, and She’s The Woman”. He said that “As Is was a ballad and was one of the slowest songs on the album but was one of the best on the album also”. He also mentioned that, “She’s the woman will be a big song among the fans. She’s The Woman was a song I played a few times because it rocked so much! It is classic Van Halen!”. He also said that “More than a FEW of the songs are older songs they have never put on previous albums. Most die hard VH fans will know when they listen”. When we asked him if the album was a heavy Van Halen record he replied with a “no”. He said that, “it was middle of the road type stuff. None of it is going to get them new fans of HEAVY music, it was just what a Van Halen fan want’s CLASSIC ROCK! with a modern twist actually!”. He said that he doesn’t “think the album will live up to the hype generated with tattoo.” Another comment was that Tattoo the - first single on the album - is not one of the best songs on the album. He said that, “David Lee Roth was way better then usual and was the best part of this album. Roth really does a good job and did not disappoint”. He noticed that, “David Lee Roth seemed to be using different voices and vocal effects on the album, I am not sure if this is because he cant sing like he used to be able to or what.. This is DLR’s best album he has done in his career singing wise”. He also mentioned to us that Wolfgang did an extraordinary job on the bass throughout the entire album. When we asked him what he would rate the full album on first listen he replied, “uhm.. I would rate it pretty high because I have loved Van Halen from the start so I think it is a 7/10”. He then went on to say, “A Different Kind of Truth is a MUST HAVE and it is a return to form, and this shows you who the big boys are!”. In his opinion “the album is a MUST HAVE for Van Halen fans and fans of good rock and roll music”. He said that “If you call yourself a rocker, or metalhead you will own this album by Valentines Day! BUT if you are a fan of Slayer, Lamb of God, Exodus and only a fan of those types of heavy bands then DO NOT buy the album”.
In conclusion it looks to us like this is going to be a good old school Van Halen album with a “modern twist”! All we can say is that Van Halen’s – Different Kind of Truth will be bought on February 7th by us! We cant wait to hear it and we hope that this review pumped you up for the album even more then you already are!!

Looks like the general approach of these early review is to like it, but with several caveats.
People seem to be hedging a little, which I guess is understandable because they don't want to look like asses if the masses don't like it.
But if the masses DO like it, then the reviewer can have a fallback position of saying, "I had a lot of positive comments in one of the earliest reviews...so see, I was right!!"Originally posted by perilouspete

Gee..remember some of our own first thoughts/reviews on Tattoo on first listen? ..this review starts at 7/10... we've gone up the scale since then so I think we should be OKExclusive VAN HALEN - A DIFFERENT KIND OF TRUTH Album Review!! - First one on the net!
