The case is surely about whether he acted in self defence or not.

A racist asshole can still act in self defence.

He maybe committed murder and it wasn't even manslaughter but I'm not beyond reasonable doubt on that.

You would imagine chances are he would get some time.

Here's a maybe dumb example.

If I drank a half dozen beers got in my car and someone jumped in front of it and I killed them then I would be doing time.

Even if the fact I was DUI wasn't the reason I hit him.

After reading the last few pages of this thread all I can say is I hope you guys don't have to serve on a jury that decides whether someone is a murderer or not, for your own sake, and for the defendant's.

Everyone deserves to be held to the standard of reasonable doubt, to be presumed innocent until proven guilty, and to have guilt determined by evidence and not by passion or emotion. If GZ is guilty of murder (and the jury determined he was not), it was incumbent on the state to prove it, which they did not do.

And the "we don't need you to do that" part is where any legitimate claim of "self defense" ended.

Shit, i can't remember in recent memory the last time a white guy killed a black man, but I could show daily killings in every state that goes unnoticed by the media of black on black and black on white that never even gets a second look or even solved. Well, the Martin family got Zimmerman to be arrested, and got him charged with 2nd degree murder. After all the evidence was laid out, especially the proof that Travon was the aggressor and Zimmerman had no choice but to defend himself, he got judged by a jury of his peers to be found not guilty. Was this something that could have been avoided, maybe so. For whatever reason though, in that moment in time, conflict wasn't avoided and cooler heads didn't prevail. One person became aggressive and it cost him his life.

Listening to the tape, I would think he was probably a racist. I wouldn't think he was a murderer. I got the impression that he was chasing to keep an eye on the guy so the cops could get him, then stopped, then was going back to his car to meet the cops.

Probably after he got off the phone, Trayvon confronted him and probably attacked him. And Zimmerman shot him. The more of the court footage I watch, the more I listen to the audio and read transcripts, I don't see how the guy could have ever been found guilty. There was not a case against him. I don't even think at this point that he should have been found guilty of manslaughter. He followed someone, went back to his car, got jumped, called for help, and shot the guy attacking him.

I really think the only reason that this is an issue at all to so many people is because of the two races of the individuals and the probability that he used a racial slur on the call, which stirs a lot of emotions.
