Looks like another attempted murder in Oakland. Though at least this time, it wasn't the cops who did it.......

Looks like a Mercedes to me. Are the 1%'ers getting desperate enough to resort to cold blooded murder?

Probably some pimped out Oakland gangstas driving the thing.

              Probably a drug dealer.

Did these OCCUPY Morons think they could get away with setting fires?

Police, Occupy protesters clash in Oakland

                    By TERRY COLLINS
                    Associated Press

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- Police and protesters supporting the Occupy Wall Street movement have clashed downtown following a day of peaceful protests throughout Oakland.

The confrontation began after protesters started a large bonfire in the middle of a downtown street. Dozens of police in riot gear moved in on hundreds of protesters as the flames leapt more than 15 feet in the air from several large metal and plastic trash bins that had been pushed together.

Police warned protesters to clear out before firing several rounds of tear gas and "flash bang" grenades to clear the area.

In the aftermath of the police actions, protesters with cloth wrapped around their faces to protect them from the stench of the gas marched through the area chanting, "Whose streets? Our streets."

                    Some marchers wore gas masks.

Glass covered streets and sidewalks from windows of area businesses that were shattered.

Graffiti on the wall next to one of the damaged shops read, "This act of vandalism was not authorized by the general assembly. Peaceful protest."

Shortly after the clash, police and protesters separated by only a few feet stared each other down in a tense standoff. A few dozen people sat on the ground right in front of officers, some with their heads bowed as if in prayer.

There were scores of police in riot gear on the scene, about as many officers as demonstrators.

The clash and subsequent standoff came only hours after Occupy Wall Street protesters declared victory after thousands of demonstrators shut down one of the nation's busiest shipping ports late Wednesday, escalating a movement whose tactics had largely been limited to marches, rallies and tent encampments since it began in September.

The nearly 5-hour protest at the Port of Oakland, the nation's fifth-busiest shipping port, was intended to highlight a daylong "general strike" in the city, which prompted solidarity rallies in New York, Los Angeles and other cities across the nation.

Police estimated that a crowd of about 3,000 had gathered at the port at the height of the demonstration around dusk. Some had marched from the city's downtown, while others had been bused to the port.

The demonstrations in Oakland were largely peaceful until the evening skirmish.

What gets me about these protesters is how they manipulate or circumvent the law to suit their own needs. Yes, a "right" to a peaceful protest but not a right to start a fire or block public streets, avenues, parks, or transportation. Tell me, where is that stated in the US Constitution? This is why this movement (if you want to call it that) will fail. I myself am no fan or friend of the police but screaming "motherfucker!" and "cunt" into their faces while trying to maintain a sense of order will not bring down a bank or make America a better place. There are definitely dysfunctions on both sides so in order to succeed one must take the higher ground.

I'm not saying this is a time to be passive especially in time so many injustices such as the Denver Police Department purposefully and intensionally shooting people in the face with pepper balls which can cause permanent blindness, and can even be fatal. What I am saying is burning shit down, defacing public property, taking a dump in public streets will only make this look like a bad traveling circus show where nothing was accomplished but anger and self-absorption.

Oakland is a real shit hole. It also seems to be where all the trouble is. I would say it's not so much the Occupy Wall Street movement as it is a bunch of rabble coming in and using it as an excuse to misbehave.

The thing is Occupy is a harsh word and I don't like the clenched fist logo. Symbols and words mean things. I would think a name like Citizens Against Corporate Abuse and a more peaceful logo would be more appropriate.

I mean what did they really think was going to happen with this? Maybe this is what they wanted?

Also, none of this affects the bankers, corporate heads, and their political cronies. It affects the people who live in the areas these protests are taking place and the people who use the parks with their children. What they have occupied and ruined is the citizens parks, streets, and sidewalks.

I knew this was a useless movement when it got going and it demonstrates this with each additional day it goes on. There is not enough substance in it to change anything for the better. Maybe the worse but certainly not for the better.

Kristy is right. You fight scumbags by being better than they are. Martin Luther King perfectly well knew that. To be part of his protest you had to agree to some strict terms on how to behave or you were out. He knew if they were just a angry rabble they would lose their credibility and fuel the excuses of their enemies. If Occupy Wall Street is going to go anywhere they better damn well keep some standards or it's over which I think it already is.

The vandalism and fires sounds like the "anarchists" (with CIA badges) finally showed up. Just like they did in Seattle in 1999.

The 1% is getting scared shitless, and the CIA has always been their tool. Even Harry Truman said so.

                                My two problem is this:

A.) A lot of these people are fucking lunatics.

B.) there's no single cohesive message that the whole country could sympathize with.

You go out and for example say. "We're tired of banks getting bailed out, We're tired of gov't and business intermingling amongst each other, We want legislation to ensure this is eliminated". Boom. A good portion of the country is instantly behind you. You're not alienating anyone, you're having a common backing that most everyone left or right could agree on.

Case in point. My dad is extremely conservative, I an independent, my neighbor an old school roosevelt/kennedy union dem. We found a lot of common ground on the issue of the bailouts, and business and gov't intermingling. You make it about a push for socialism or more gov't? You're alienating a major section of the country. And like it or not, just because they're maybe tea bagging assholes, they're still your fellow citizens, and they still need to have their voices heard.

It needs to be professional looking (not fake, but you cannot have 1000s of white dudes in dreds smelling of the mary jane in your crowd. think of it as going to a job interview, and no, not at the comic book store), and not full of violent thugs. Pretty much going along with what Kristy said.

And, I'm sorry..the sob stories..aren't making me sympathetic. You know, we all have fucking tough times in life. I know people who've gone through terrible monetary moments in their life. Maybe it's just me personally, but if it's supposed to put a face on it, it doesn't. It's a message of hopelessness. That you can't make it on your own, that the whole world is trying to make sure you fail. That's not the America I grew up in, that's not the attitude I believe in. We need more messages of inspiration and success. Not of failure.
